The Office of Grants and Research (OGR), KNUST, invites eligible researchers to apply for funding under the Gap Fund: Single-Step Support for Medical Product Development programme.

The programme, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC), supports projects aimed at generating critical data to build confidence in the development of new or repurposed medicines, medical devices, diagnostic tests, or other medical interventions.

General Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be affiliated with an academic institution, government/public sector organization, or non-profit organization

  • Propose a project with a clear focus on medical product development

  • Demonstrate capability to manage the proposed research project and meet reporting requirements

Career Stage Eligibility:

  • Early Career / Emerging in Field

  • Mid-Career to Established Researchers

Project Focus

Projects may focus on:

  • Medicine & Health

General Exclusions

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Projects without a clear translational or product development focus

  • Purely theoretical research with no potential application to medical product development

  • Award Type: Research Project Grants & Innovation

  • Maximum Award Amount: GBP 300,000

Important Notes

  • Applications should be submitted according to funder instructions once the deadline is announced

  • Only one application per funding cycle is permitted per applicant

  • Awardees must provide progress reports and final reports as required by MRC
