Malnutrition Costs Ghana $2bn Annually

Ghana loses $2 billion annually due to the impact of child malnutrition, a new research has revealed.

According to the research, 35% of Ghanaians have suffered from stunted growth. The research also reveals that 10.5% of children who are repeated in school are as a result of malnutrition.

SEND West Africa wants political leaders to come up with strategic interventions to prevent the trend, especially in the regions north of Ghana.

The Chief Executive Director of SEND West Africa, Siapha Kamara said presidential aspirants should indicate specific ways they will deal with the canker should they win power.

“It is causing the Ghanaian economy billions of Cedis on malnutrition and presidential aspirants should prioritise government budget on nutrition and expect them to come out with health educational and nutritional programmes to help solve the problem”.
