Property research shows struggle for under 30s

The House Crowd’s research shows that today’s twentysomethings feel that there are just too many barriers to make their first steps on to the property ladder. Millennials in the north west feel UK property is so out of reach that 28 per cent say they will have to wait until they inherit money before they can get on the property ladder.

Research by Hale-based property crowdfunding platform, The House Crowd , revealed that 58 per cent of those surveyed in the region worry about saving a deposit, an even greater percentage than the 53 per cent of London-based respondents.

The UK-wide survey also indicated that 46 per cent of under 30s in the north west feel that property prices are too high.

The House Crowd’s research shows that today’s twentysomethings feel that there are just too many barriers to make their first steps on to the property ladder.

Frazer Fearnhead, founder and CEO of The House Crowd, said: "The situation for the younger generation appears to be getting worse, and it’s concerning that so many feel resigned to the fact that they will never be able to invest in property.

"However, if under 30s look beyond the conventional routes to property investment, there are ways to get that elusive first step on the property ladder.

"Property crowdfunding through a reputable organisation like The House Crowd enables people who don’t have access to large deposits, or the ability to pay big mortgages, to invest.

"We also take care of all the management and maintenance of properties, so young investors can focus on their busy lives and building their careers while we look after their investment.

"Twentysomethings don’t have to deal with mortgage lenders and endless questions from the banks to invest in property – there is another way.”

The House Crowd is a property crowdfunding platform that solves some of the common problems often faced when investing in a property as an individual.

With investment from just £1,000, individuals can invest in property companies (SPVs) to share in any income and capital uplift. Crowdfunding allows investors to pool resources with those other like-minded investors, spreading risk and earning great returns.

The House Crowd was launched in 2012, and has recently received investmen t at a valuation of £20m. The company has forecast to receive £100m from investors in the next financial year.
