OGR Organizes Workshop for KNUST School of Business

The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) in collaboration with the School of Business has organised a two-day workshop on Grant Proposal Writing for staff of the School from 17th to 18th March 2016.
The purpose of the workshop was to expand the understanding of participants in Grant Proposal Writing in Business and Social Sciences.
The facilitators for the workshop included Prof. Peter Donkor, Director, Office of Grant and Research (OGR), Prof. Imoro Braimah, Provost, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Harry Tagbor, School of Public Health, Ms Nadia Tagoe, OGR and Mrs Florence A. Aboh, OGR.
The workshop sought to broaden the knowledge of participants in developing research proposals for funding. It also sought to enlighten participants in the uniqueness of grant proposal writing and enable them write proposals for funding.
In his opening remarks, Dr Ahmed Agyapong, the Acting Dean, noted that the workshop was one of the series of workshops that had been planned for staff and encouraged them to make use of the knowledge that will be imparted.
The topics that were discussed included “Research, A Duty for the Academic”, “Research Methods– the Science”, “Funding Sources and Breaking Down a Funding Opportunity Announcement”, “Elements of a Proposal for Funding”, “Budget and Justification” and “Administrative Considerations in Proposal Writing”.
Prof. Donkor admonished participants to make research part of their personal plan and strive to publish their research findings to show their expertise and credibility. This according to him will increase their visibility and open doors for collaboration.The Provost of the College, in his presentation, expounded on different methods used in conducting research. He reminded participants that, in this knowledge age, individuals or organisations cannot survive without knowledge. He added that a good research shouldbe able to stand up to test, must be objective and be devoid of all emotional attachment. Dr Tagbor took participants through the science and art of grant writing, making use of real life examples to help participants build their grant writing skills. Ms Tagoe presented on and led discussions on developing a budget and justification for grant proposals. She also joined Mrs Florence A. Aboh to talk about sources of funding and breaking down funding opportunity announcements.
