KNUST Takes Steps To Add Value To Its PhD Programmes

In a bid to add value to it's PhD Programmmes, the KNUST School of Business has taken steps to build the capacity to efficiently run its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). This was disclosed by Dr. Ahmed Agyapong the Acting Dean of the School.

He said that the school had already submitted a proposal to the United States (US) Carnegie Corporation, an international organization that has been supporting higher education and research. This initiative would provide technical expertise in the area of PhD supervision, publication, curriculum development and relationship with students. The move, he said, was meant to re-position the School as a centre of excellence in business administration courses.

Dr. Agyapong was speaking at the official launch of the 10th anniversary celebration of the school Kumasi.

He spoke of scaled-up training for the lecturers on writing of technical proposals for project funding of businesses.

The goal, he said was to aid them to offer vital consultancy services to businesses to generate more funds for the school’s development.

“Celebrating our past, charting our future” is the theme for the week-long event.
Dr. Agyapong said in line with its determination to run relevant programmes that would meet the needs and aspirations of industry, they had been working hard to enter into partnership with some local companies in the areas of research, practical training and students’ internship.
He hinted of plans to make internship compulsory for all level 300 undergraduate students to expose them to work experience.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the University, hailed his deceased predecessor, Prof. Kwesi Andam, for his vision in establishing the school, which he said had become one of the most vibrant and innovative institutions.

Through its own effort, it had built a lecture block, ultra-modern auditorium and offering hands-on practical solutions to challenges inhibiting the growth of Ghanaian businesses.
He encouraged the authorities to maintain the momentum and continue to work hard to transform and enhance the performance of businesses.
