This phase involves the initial steps of preparing for a successful research grant application:

1. Generate Research Idea

   Begin by identifying a research idea or problem you would like to investigate or address through your research. Research ideas are usually born out of the researchers' interests, previous research findings, contemporary development issues, national research priorities, or global trends.

2. Find Funding Opportunity

   The OGR provides access to a wide range of funding opportunities from both internal and external sources. This includes KReF, Monthly Bulletins, Research Professional Africa, and other external sources. At this stage, the researcher begins to search for funding opportunities that match their research idea or interest.
