The KNUST Research Fund provides funding to stimulate innovative and practical research by staff of the University. The fund aims to enhance staff capacity in securing and managing external research grants while addressing societal challenges. KReF offers two main categories of support:
- Seed Grants: Designed for small-scale or exploratory research projects, these grants help researchers test the feasibility of new ideas and gather preliminary data.
- Multi-Disciplinary Grants: Targeted at research addressing complex societal issues, these grants encourage collaboration across at least three distinct disciplines and aim to influence policy and practice.

- Self-financing
Researchers can also fall on their own resources relying on the annual Book and Research Allowance paid to researchers directly by the Government of Ghana

OGR compiles and disseminate funding opportunities organized according to the various colleges of the university. The FOA Bulletins are published on the OGR website and also sent via emails and social media platforms.
- Research Professional Africa
Research Professional Africa is a comprehensive database that helps researchers to browse through thousands of open calls from international sponsors pre-filtered for the eligibility of Ghanaian institutions. KNUST’s subscription to RPA provides access to all the funding opportunities on the portal by its staff members using their staff credentials.
