At the 59th Special Congregation of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2026, the University highlighted a significant milestone in advancing research-led infrastructure development in Ghana—the commissioning of the Asenso-Boakye Infrastructure Research Hub.

Delivering remarks during the ceremony, Prof. Michael PokuBoansi, Director, School of Graduate Studies, KNUST provided insights into the vision and purpose of the newly established facility. Commissioned on 16 March 2026, the Asenso-Boakye Infrastructure Research Hub is a multidisciplinary research and innovation laboratory designed to generate evidence-based knowledge to inform infrastructure policy, attract financing, and catalyze sustainable development in Ghana.

The hub serves as a collaborative platform that brings together researchers, faculty, and students to advance scholarship and practice in infrastructure planning, design, investment, and management. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the facility is expected to foster innovative solutions to some of Ghana’s most pressing infrastructure challenges.

Established through the support of the Bantama AsensoBoakye Foundation, the research hub seeks to bridge the persistent gap between academic research, infrastructure financing, and policy implementation in Ghana. By generating policy-relevant data and practical insights, the hub aims to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and support strategic investments in critical infrastructure sectors.

Prof. Poku-Boansi emphasized that the initiative reflects KNUST’s commitment to ensuring that academic research translates into practical development outcomes. The hub is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding national conversations on infrastructure development while also providing opportunities for students and researchers to engage in high-impact, policy-oriented research.

The establishment of the Asenso-Boakye Infrastructure Research Hub further reinforces KNUST’s position as a leading institution in research, innovation, and national development, demonstrating how university-based research can contribute meaningfully to sustainable infrastructure planning and economic transformation in Ghana.

Through such initiatives, KNUST continues to strengthen its mission of producing knowledge that addresses real-world challenges and supports the country’s long-term development agenda.
