The Office of Grants and Research (OGR), KNUST, invites the university community to apply for the SGCI Multilateral Research Call – Supporting STISA 2034, coordinated by the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Government of Norway, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Wellcome Trust, and participating African Science Granting Councils. The programme supports collaborative, multi-country research projects that advance the African Union's Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA-2034).

Objectives

  • Support collaborative, multi-country research aligned with the priorities of STISA-2034.
  • Strengthen Africa's science, technology, and innovation ecosystems.
  • Promote research that informs policy and delivers measurable societal impact.
  • Encourage solutions that benefit vulnerable and underserved populations.
  • Foster regional partnerships and knowledge exchange across African research institutions.

  • Health (including primary healthcare, One Health, and traditional medicine)
  • Agriculture (including climate resilience and precision agriculture)
  • Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies
  • Energy (including renewable energy systems, energy storage, and manufacturing)
  • Environment (including water security, biodiversity, and climate adaptation)

Eligibility

  • Consortia comprising at least three institutions from three different SGCI-eligible countries.
  • Lead and co-applicants must be public research organisations, universities, or government research institutions.
  • Principal Investigators must hold full-time appointments at their respective institutions.
  • Only one institution per country may participate as a co-applicant within a consortium.

Application Process

Applicants should prepare and submit an Expression of Interest through the SGCI application process before the application deadline. Successful applicants will subsequently be invited to submit full proposals through their respective national Science Granting Councils.

Researchers who intend to apply are encouraged to contact the Office of Grants and Research (OGR), KNUST, for guidance on consortium development, proposal preparation, and institutional support throughout the application process.
