The Office of Grants and Research (OGR), KNUST announces the EIC Transition Programme funded under Horizon Europe. This programme supports the maturation and validation of novel technologies, taking them beyond laboratory proof of principle toward application-relevant environments.

  • Funder: European Innovation Council (Horizon Europe)

  • Grant Amount: Up to EUR 2.5 million (Booster grants up to EUR 50,000)

  • Application Deadline: 16 September 2026

  • Eligible Applicants: Start-ups, SMEs, research-performing organisations (universities, research or technology organisations), individual Principal Investigators intending to form spin-offs

  • Eligible Teams: Single legal entities, small consortia (2 entities), multi-beneficiary consortia (3–5 entities)

  • Focus Areas: Technology maturation, validation in application-relevant environments, business and market readiness

Summary:

The EIC Transition programme aims to:

  • Support the development of EU-funded project results with promising commercial potential

  • Enable maturation and validation of novel technologies from TRL 3/4 to TRL 5/6

  • Encourage applicants to form motivated, interdisciplinary teams with skills in research, business, and marketing

  • Offer access to tailor-made Business Acceleration Services (BAS) including mentoring, coaching, training, and ecosystem networking

  • Provide Booster grants for complementary activities to explore commercialization pathways

Eligible Projects: Must build on results from projects such as EIC Pathfinder, ERC Proof of Concept, Horizon Europe/2020 Research and Innovation Actions, and certain European Defence Fund projects (civil applications only).

Selection Process:

  1. Proposal Submission: Sections 1–3 (max 22 pages) via the Funding & Tender Opportunities Portal

  2. Evaluation: Assessment by EIC expert jury

  3. Interview: Face-to-face evaluation by EIC Jury members (up to 6 members)

Budget 2026: Total allocation of EUR 100 million for EIC Transition grants.
