The Office of Grants and Research (OGR), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), invites eligible researchers and students to apply for the “Wings to Fly” Travel Grant, offered by the Raptor Research Foundation (RRF). This grant supports early-career raptor researchers and conservationists from outside the United States and Canada to attend and present their work at the RRF annual conference.

Programme Overview
The “Wings to Fly” Travel Grant is designed to promote global participation in raptor research and conservation by enabling selected applicants to present a paper or poster at the RRF annual meeting. The programme supports professional development and fosters international collaboration in the field of raptor science and conservation.

Funding Support

  • Maximum award of up to USD 2,500 (depending on travel costs)

  • Coverage includes:

    • Airfare

    • Visa fees

    • Accommodation and meals

    • Conference registration (waived)

    • One-year membership to the Raptor Research Foundation

  • Up to five (5) grants awarded annually

Eligibility

  • Open to raptor researchers and conservationists based outside the U.S. and Canada

  • Applicants must be presenting a paper or poster at the RRF annual meeting

  • Both students and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following through the online application system:

  • Title and abstract of the proposed presentation (maximum 300 words)

  • Description of materials and methods (if applicable, maximum 300 words)

  • Academic qualifications (completed and ongoing degrees)

  • Description of work on raptor species and conservation activities (e.g., research, monitoring, applied conservation, education, advocacy)

  • List of relevant scientific publications

  • A motivational essay (maximum 300 words) outlining how attending the conference will contribute to professional development and conservation efforts in the home country

  • For students: names and contact details of two referees

  • Estimated travel costs

Application Timeline

  • Deadline: 31 March (annually)

  • Applications open in January each year

  • Decisions are typically communicated within two weeks after the deadline

Additional Information
If selected applicants are unable to obtain a visa in time, the award may be deferred to the following year’s conference.
