Grants Management Officials from University of Agriculture Abeokuta visit Office of Grants and Research (OGR)

The Office of Grants and Research has played host to a two-member team from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Nigeria (FUNAAB) who were on an exploratory visit to KNUST.  The team was led by Dr. Kolawole Adebayo, Director of Grants Management.  The visit was to formally engage the Office of Grants and Research (OGR) and Researchers on ways to collaborate in order to maximize research output in the fields of agriculture, science, engineering and other related fields.

The leader of the team, Dr. Kolawole Adebayo, enumerated research projects being managed by his University.  He particularly mentioned the “Cassava: Adding Value for Africa phase II (CAVA II) Project” that is currently led by FUNAAB and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. According to him one of the award requirements is to foster collaboration with other institutions especially in Africa.  He also stated that it is imperative that institutions in the south collaborate to engage in ground-breaking research that attracts large funding and solve societal problems in diverse ways.

The Director of OGR, Prof. Peter Donkor, welcomed the team and said that the Office is committed to facilitating any discussion that would propel and add value to research.

The meeting brought together staff from the Colleges of Science, Engineering and Agric. and Natural Resources who took turns to discuss their College’s capacity for research and their readiness to join forces with other institutions outside KNUST to carry out research and engage in programmes that are of mutual benefit.

Participants in the meeting included Dr. Adebosola Oladeinde, Deputy Director, Prof. R. Akromah, Provost, College of Agric. and National Resources, Prof. Ibok Oduro - College of Science, Prof. S. K. Agbozo and Prof. Ahmad Addo – College of Engineering. Also in attendance were the Deputy Finance Officer, Mr E. Appiah-Kubi and Mr E. Ebo Ocran.

Other areas that were discussed were opportunities for Post-Graduate Training and Joint Award of Degrees. The team from FUNAAB promised to initiate steps towards the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between their University and KNUST.
