Strengthening Pre-Award Grant Management at KNUST

19th March 2026 Office of Grants and Research

The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology  held an internal seminar to support ongoing efforts to improve pre-award grant management and enhance research support systems.

The session was led by Dr. Olumide Odeyemi from the University of Tasmania, who shared practical insights into how effective pre-award processes are structured and managed in leading research institutions.

A key highlight was the introduction of the Research Management Reference Model, which outlines the full research process—from idea development and funding identification to proposal preparation, implementation, and reporting. The model emphasized the importance of clear and well-coordinated systems in supporting successful grant applications.

Discussions during the seminar covered important areas such as:

  • Identifying relevant funding opportunities
  • Improving proposal development and internal review processes
  • Strengthening budgeting and compliance practices
  • Enhancing coordination between researchers and support teams

The seminar also provided an opportunity for OGR staff to reflect on current practices, identify areas for improvement, and explore ways to strengthen internal systems.

Overall, the session reinforced OGR’s commitment to improving support for researchers, strengthening internal processes, and building capacity for more competitive grant development.
