The Office of Grants and Research (OGR), in collaboration with the College of Art and Built Environment (CABE) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has organized a two-day Grantsmanship and Proposal Development Workshop to strengthen the grant acquisition and proposal writing skills of senior members.
The workshop brought together researchers and academics for sessions on proposal writing, budgeting, compliance, ethics, and intellectual property management.
Opening the workshop, Prof. Christian Koranteng, Provost of CABE, and Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, Director of the Office of Grants and Research, emphasized the importance of strategic grant writing, innovation, and collaboration in advancing academic excellence and institutional impact.
A major highlight of the workshop was a session on “Anatomy of a Winning Proposal” facilitated by Prof. William Oduro, who guided participants on developing strong problem statements, SMART objectives, and proposal structures that align methodology, budget, outputs, and impact.
Prof. Owusu Amponsah also encouraged researchers within the arts and built environment disciplines to position their work around themes such as sustainability, climate adaptation, cultural heritage, and social inclusion to attract modern funding opportunities.
Sessions on intellectual property, ethics, budgeting, and compliance were led by Mrs. Eunice Adu Boahen, Dr. Kwabena Ampong, and Mr. Bernard Asamoah Barnie, who provided practical guidance on donor expectations, project budgeting, institutional overheads, ethics approvals, and proposal submission procedures.
Participants were also introduced to major ethics committees, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Committee on Human Research and Publication Ethics (CHRPE), Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (HuSSAEC), Animal Research Ethics Committee (AREC), and Biosafety Ethics Committee (BEC).
In his closing remarks, the workshop committee chairman commended facilitators, participants, and organizers for contributing to the success of the programme and encouraged researchers to apply the knowledge gained to strengthen research excellence, collaboration, and innovation within the university community.
