Street Foods Project

The Street foods Project, is a Ghana-Denmark research collaboration which seeks to generate research-based knowledge to support the development of small businesses in the urban street food vending subsector in Ghana. This is to make the sector a viable engine for economic growth and development in Ghana.

The project is funded by DANIDA and has three main partners which are KNUST, University of Copenhagen and the Food Research Institute of CSIR. The project has a strong component of human capacity building, which is central to growth and development. The project has integrated several training programs for students (PhDs, MScs), institutional staff (training courses) and key stakeholders particularly food vendors.

The project also develops guidelines to addressing constraints in the food vending sector which will make the sector more effective and productive and will increase employment opportunities and livelihood to the urban dwellers.  Health concerns will also be greatly reduced. The Street Foods Project has an elaborate dissemination plan.
